When the occasion calls for an introduction, says "I study film" for convenience's sake, but self-identifies as a cultural researcher who explores the world through the medium of film. Attends chiefly to the politics of representation, signification, and discourse, and pours affection into all the boundaries of the world—those that endlessly expand, divide, and sometimes overlap. The biggest recent preoccupation: how to make the boundaries between self and not-self, inside and outside, here and there, us and them softer and fainter, so that looser connections become possible.
